South Carolina braces for record-breaking heat wave

COLUMBIA, S.C. Record-breaking temperatures were forecast across South Carolina on Wednesday, and much of the state was advised to stay in air-conditioned buildings.Columbia was expected to have the state's highest temperature at 103 degrees, and part of the city was put under water restrictions. The previous record high for Columbia was 102 set in 1900.Charleston was predicted to feel the hottest because the coastal humidity should make a high of 100 seem more like 119, said Leonard Vaughan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
