Flood situation in Bihar unprecendented

Millions of people have been displaced by flooding after heavier-than-usual monsoon rains battered South Asia. Large areas of Bangladesh are among those under water.

PATNA: Bihar's NDA government on Tuesday admitted that the overall flood situation in the state was unprecendented with rivers wreaking havoc in 19 districts and sought central assistance worth over Rs 3100 crore.

The rainfall was heavy, between two and five times the normal, incessant and widespreads. Both the Nepal part as well as the north Bihar part received rainfall on this scale. The south Bihar rivers like Punpun, Phalgu, Lokahe had floods at the same time.

The total number of villages affected was 6108 which are spread over 971 panchayats and 167 blocks. The estimated population affected was 119.75 lakh
