DES MOINES (AP) — A winter storm that coated power lines and trees in a glaze of ice left nearly 250,000 customers in the cold and dark, but utility company officials said Sunday night progress was being made in restoring electricity in some areas.

As of Feb 26, the storm had left more than four feet of snow in most areas. At points overnight, most major roadways in the Sierra were shutdown due to white out conditions or avalanche control. Conditions are expected to change frequently and motorists are advised to bring chains and their patience if they are traveling in the Sierra.
