RECORD WAVE HEIGHTS NOT SEEN IN 30 YEARS
are expected along the Gulf of Carpentaria coast as a tropical low moves towards Cape York. Waves over three metres high and high tides between four and five metres are expected to hit island and coastal communities from Weipa to Mornington Peninsula. A tropical low in the gulf moving east from the Northern Territory - the remains of Cyclone Helen - is causing the abnormal conditions.
