Floods cause road and rail chaos

Floods and rain have caused problems in northern England and Wales, forcing the closure of key road and rail routes and inundating homes.

Dozens of homes and businesses were flooded in West and South Yorkshire, while schools and shops were closed.

*Rail services disrupted in Lancashire and Yorkshire
*Roads closed across the country
*Flood sirens sounded in Louth and Horncastle in Lincolnshir


Rail passengers and drivers met problems as the West Coast main line between Lancaster and Preston was closed, and floods hit the M1 and M62.

Elsewhere, heavy snowfall hit parts of north-east England and Scotland.

At 1845 GMT on Monday, 15 severe flood warnings and 124 flood warnings were in place across England and Wales
